DCSS Term 2 Week 10
Calendar of Events
A Word From The Principal

Semester One Report Cards- All Semester One report cards have now been made available through the QParent App or emailed to families. If you cannot see your child’s report card, check your junk mailbox. It is important to remember, when sharing your child’s report with them, that you focus on the effort they applied, their behaviour and overall comment. A ‘C’ rating signifies that your child is achieving their year level standard and this is a wonderful celebration. It is also important to note that students have a whole year to achieve their year level standard. Term 3 Parent/Teacher face to face Interviews will again occur with the dates yet to be finalised.
Woodford Show- once again we had another enjoyable and very successful Woodford Show. Each year the Woodford Show organisers go above and beyond to make the show more enjoyable and interesting for our students. It was wonderful to hear words of affirmation from members of the public as well as our State Member- Andrew Powell and our Local Member – Tony Latter, say how respectful and beautifully behaved our students are. Being part of a community and having strong relationships is a school value we hold dear and this event just amplifies it.

Athletics Carnival- such a disappointment to have to postpone our carnival but it hopefully we will get to enjoy it on a beautiful July morning Term 3.

NAIDOC Week- NAIDOC Week is celebrated each year from July 6 to July 13 and because this is through the school holidays, we always celebrate the first week back. Over the past three years we have had some amazing indigenous performers that the students have absolutely loved. This year will be no different and I am happy to announce that this year we have secured Dion Drummond to perform at our school Thursday, July 17.
In his school visits, Dion shares tales and artifacts from his cultures, teaching students about the different traditions of both Torres Strait Island and Aboriginal storytelling, song and dance. Students participate in learning a little of the language, including some songs, as well as a look at the skills of Indigenous dances.

Whole School Expectations
Our whole school expectations for the last two weeks have centred around safety and following directions, with the focus being the Woodford Show and the Athletics Carnival.
The main points we need students to remember when they are out and about are to
- Follow the adults instructions first time, every time
- Not pick up strange items but rather alert the teacher
- Ask before you do. Don’t just walk off from your group
- Use your best manners
The other important whole school expectation we have at the end of the term is to be responsible and take belongings home for the holidays.
Over the holidays it is a great opportunity to make sure jumpers are named along with other school items like lunchboxes and drink bottles.
Finally, at Delaneys Creek State School we like everyone, parents included, to take time to reflect on what they have been grateful for over the term. We teach children that being grateful does the following-
- it’s an instant mood booster and feels great in the moment
- you’re likely to feel closer to friends and family
- you’re likely to enjoy your life more
- it’s good for your physical health
- it’s easier to cope with tough times
