A Word From The Principal

Congratulations Year 3-6 students on another successful Valley Champs Netball and Football competition. Our students showed great sportsmanship on the day. Well done to our junior division netballers who came in first place! Their teamwork and determination shone through every match.

Well done Mrs Place and her Year 6 Student Leaders on running another successful Student Carnival. It was lovely to see so many happy faces on the last day of school. All money raised through the sale of wristbands will go towards supporting both the Year 6 Graduation and their gift to the school.
Term 4 Swimming- Next term, students will be participating in swimming lessons from weeks 4-8. Invoices and permissions will be sent out next week.
Cyber Safety- In today's digital world, our children are more connected than ever — to friends, learning, entertainment, and unfortunately, risks. Understanding how to guide and protect them online is more important than ever.
We are pleased to invite you to our upcoming Cyber Safety Information Night on Wednesday October 22 at 5.00pm-6.00pm, designed specifically for parents and carers. This session will provide practical information and insights to help you support your child’s safe and responsible use of technology. Please see the flyer below for more information.

Drop and Go- For those of you on our local Facebook page, you will no doubt have seen the post last week relating to the traffic congestion spilling out onto Mt Mee Road. All family members who pick up children need to be mindful that they are following the pick-up procedures.
- Only enter drop and go lane if free to do so. If full, drive on and park.
- Students should be entering car from passenger side. If students must enter car from drivers' side, be mindful that cars are encouraged to use the right-hand lane to overtake and exit.
- Stop and pick up has a 2 min time limit.
- Display a large print sign with student’s name. An early name call means you aren’t waiting.

For those of you who love a good podcast, here is one for the holidays. This podcast is about finding the sweet spot between the textbooks and real life when it comes to parenting. Dr Billy (a developmental paediatrician) and Nick (a developing parent) are a couple of dads having honest discussions about parenting day to day.
They use iconic TV and cinema scenes from the 80's & 90's to give context to their parenting advice.

Have a restful break from making lunches and washing uniforms and we will see you in a fortnight.

School Watch
We need everyone to look out for after-hours crime in our school. If you see anything suspicious, please don't attempt to intervene.
Call the School Watch number – 13 17 88.
The School Watch Program is a partnership between the Department of Education and the Queensland Police Service (Protective Services). It aims to reduce vandalism, theft and arson in Queensland schools. Let's work together to help create a safer school community.
Tradies Supporting Education
WOODFORD CONSTRUCTION CREW BUILDING MORE THAN JUST WALLS
Woodford – The construction site of the new Woodford Youth Detention Centre is buzzing with more than just heavy machinery and hard hats — it’s brimming with community spirit.
This week, Delaneys Creek State School Captains Grace and Levi, accompanied by Mrs. Abraham, visited the site to receive a generous $5,000 donation from the construction and site crew. The funds, raised through weekly meat raffles and monthly BBQs, are part of a heartfelt initiative spearheaded by Billy and his team to give back to the local community.
“Thank you for donating money for us to further develop our technologies and help the next generation of possible tradies,” said Levi during the cheque handover. The money will be used for the school’s STEM program as it seems fitting that a project grounded in construction is helping us build skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
The donation is part of a wider goal: to raise $50,000 by the end of the build in 2027. So far, over $20,000 has been raised by the site teams, thanks to the ongoing support of local businesses such as Ledgers Country Butchers, Woodford IGA, and the Woodford Bakery. These businesses provide the meat and supplies for the much-loved weekly raffles and monthly BBQs held onsite.
The team from Delaneys Creek State School were taken on a tour of the expansive site by Robbie and Lloyd — affectionately known as the "Morale Police". Currently home to over 400 workers, the site is set to peak at over 500 as the build progresses. It's no small task — the youth centre will match the footprint of the neighbouring men’s correctional facility, accommodating up to 112 young people aged 12 to 17.
Grace and Levi were given the privilege of witnessing the weekly meat tray draw, a much-anticipated Friday tradition among the crew. The event highlights the camaraderie and shared purpose that defines the project — one not only of construction, but of community-building.
The Youth Detention Centre, which broke ground on May 17, 2024, is scheduled for completion mid-2027. While it will provide much-needed accommodation and rehabilitation services for young people, it’s already proving to be a place where values like generosity, collaboration, and hope are being laid brick by brick.

Instrumental Music News
INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC AT DELANEYS CREEK, 2026:
Did you know that group lessons in concert band instruments are available at the school, free of charge, apart from a yearly resource fee and maintenance levy? Instruction is available in flute, clarinet, saxophone (pending), trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and percussion. Students are admitted to the program based on suitability testing, academic results and behaviour, and subject to an instrument and place being available. Students can start in the band program from YEAR 4, not earlier. The school has instruments available for beginners wishing to start next year.
There is conclusive evidence that the study of a musical instrument can improve academic performance, fine motor skills and self-discipline. Most importantly, it fosters a lifelong interest in music and provides an avenue for self-expression, a sense of teamwork and accomplishment. Regular practice and commitment to ensemble rehearsals and performances is required. Please note that lessons in guitar, keyboard, voice or strings are not provided as part of the program and that students must be in year four or above to be able to join the program.
If you are interested in having your child tested for the program and have not yet obtained an application form, please ask for an “Instrumental Music Expression of Interest form” from the office and return it by the middle of term 4.
