A Word From The Principal

Welcome to our 2025 Student Leaders!
On Wednesday February 12, we congratulated and awarded badges to our School Captains, House Captains, Performing Arts Captain, Languages Captain and Student Councillors. We are excited to work with our student leadership team as they represent our students and importantly support our student population to participate and enjoy school life. Our junior students, especially our preppies, have been enjoying having their leaders play games with them at lunchtimes and have a chat with them about any problems they are having. We know that these students are excellent listeners, and also want the very best for our community.

Sustainability Leaders- The Eco Marines
On Wednesday, Mrs Stanley proudly presented our 2025 Eco Marines with their certificates and announced which Year 5 students were successful in gaining one of the four Eco Marine Ambassador positions. The four successful students were Ella Sweeney, Quinn Stanley, Tristan Bagby and Mabel Hume. These students will be attending the annual Eco Marine Ambassador Day at Tangalooma Island on March 11. We will be very excited to hear what ideas they come back to school with and what their major environmental project will be for 2025. Keep an eye out for them this week on DC Live where they will be sharing how to sort rubbish successfully.

Our Fabulous P&C
A huge shout out to our P&C team. What a great end of last year with community events like our Dig Deep for Delaneys. Our P&C regularly brings to our meetings ideas and questions about the school organisation and learning structure to help our staff understand the community needs and wants. When we are making decisions about our school, we consult our P&C as representatives of our parents.
Would you like to help our school to partner with parents and respond to the community’s needs? Why don’t you join us for our next P&C meeting 3 March 6:00pm in the school library.
Our next meeting will commence with the annual AGM, we will be electing our new committee members. Our current committee have been amazing at collaborating and supporting our school community.
Have a wonderful fortnight everyone.

Whole School Expectations

Over the past two weeks, students have been learning that to Be An Achiever they need to FAIL in order to SAIL. FAIL stands for First Attempt In Learning and SAIL stands for Second Attempt In Learning. Research shows that for the brain to learn it needs usually needs to fail first. The struggle to correct and improve is where the learning kicks in. This is always done in a supportive manner and we use the visual of the Learning Pit to support this thinking. With the Learning Pit we start and the top and with anything new it can be exciting yet scary. Diving into the learning we often find that we might get stuck in the Pit and struggle to get out. But with the support of our teacher and peers we eventually emerge, stronger for the struggle. That is where we FAIL to SAIL. Many of you would have seen this process in action as your child learned to crawl and then walk. At times getting frustrated, trying to get to where they want to be, we as parents encouraged them to keep trying, and at points supporting them gently until they got to where they wanted to be. Once they can do it, we praise them for their efforts. It is super important that as adults we don’t rush in to support as soon as something becomes a little tricky.
This week’s rule of the week is to Be Respectful and to support students to solve conflicts and disagreements peacefully, we teach them how to put some SALT on a situation. SALT stands for Stop, Ask a question, Listen to what the person has to say and the Talk it through or tell an adult. Young children often need an adult to support them through this until they get the hang of it themselves. This is how we teach children to use their words to solve a problem.
If you haven’t already done so, please check out our DC Facebook live updates by our School Captains Grace and Levi. Each week Grace and Levi are sharing the rule of the week and what it looks like as a student in our school. They are also providing updates and reminders.

Harmony Day 2025

This year we will be celebrating Harmony Day early on Friday, March 7. Ordinarily Harmony Week runs from Monday March 17 - Sunday March 23, however due to other calendar events we will be kicking off earlier. Harmony Week is an opportunity to celebrate and recognise our diversity. It's about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
To celebrate we are inviting all students to come in their most colourful ‘sun safe’ clothing, to represent the many colours of our world. We will also be celebrating with a Subway lunch and Chappy Tracy will be running fun lunchtime activities for students to enjoy. It should be a great day.
